The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
