The English Team to Begin Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they secure the anticipated entry for a tournament staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an English men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to stage the national team for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.

England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, should they win the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would take place at St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Kickoff and Rally

The championship was launched at an event in central London on Wednesday night. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they arrived the site by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged the Israeli team to be removed from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.

Banners were displayed with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Schedule

The opening game of the tournament will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a game that will feature the Welsh team if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at 5pm.

It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to households and help reach a more diverse set of fans.

Participating Countries

The Republic of Ireland are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that do not reach the tournament through that route.

Locations and Elimination Phase

Aston Villa’s stadium and Spurs’ ground complete the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches played at each country’s national stadium.

The qualifying draw will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it became clear the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a competition for the supporters and a festival of everything we value about the football – its fervor and power to foster unity.”

Over 3 million admissions, a record for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be released to fans.
