Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with results this poor.”
He stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
