Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
