Experience this Reimagined Legendary Adventure: This Free Trial for DQ7 Reimagined Debuts Shortly.
Fans anticipating the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined don't need to wait much longer. An free-to-play demo version is set to release on January 7th, offering a sizable look into the game's opening hours. Notably, all save data achieved within this demo is eligible to be imported directly into the main game upon its subsequent debut.
Beyond Just a Straightforward Re-release: The Complete Overhaul
This project is a from-scratch reinterpretation of the landmark year 2000 role-playing game, originally released as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant step away from other series re-releases, like the recently released HD-2D versions, this version adopts a charming 3D aesthetic. Environments are designed to look like detailed dioramas, with party members sporting a whimsical chibi-esque look.
"Taking into account the previous port, the main quest was still quite long. Consequently, the team came to a decision that we wanted to condense the story, [and] craft an adventure for contemporary audiences."
Major Mechanical Improvements and Updates
The development team has introduced numerous modernizations to update the original gameplay loop. Among these are:
- Expedited Field Encounters: Taking a cue from contemporary role-playing games, weaker enemies are now dispatched directly on the overworld map without initiating a full traditional battle sequence.
- Variable Battle Pace: Players can speed up combat animations to rapidly get past easier fights.
- Expanded Vocation System: One completely new character role has been added for this remake. Additionally, party members gain the capacity to take on a second job, greatly enhancing customization options.
These changes seek to tackle a key the original title's common criticisms: its immense length. That initial main quest was known to take over 100 hours to finish. This new version was specifically structured to improve pacing and reduce any repetition.
